300 ft up?

November 23, 2006

Twenty years ago today.  Thanksgiving 1986.  I stood on the balcony of my 19th floor room at the San Antonio Riverwalk Hilton.  High enough to see for miles.  Low enough to hear the voices below.  It’s the perfect perspective.

State lines and city limits don’t exist at 300 ft.  Just nature, people, and the things we’ve built (or destroyed).

One of the things you notice from there is how the world is about trends.  Things don’t just start and stop.  They gradually transition.   You don’t get that from 30,000 ft.  From there, it’s just takeoffs and landings.  One location, culture, geography – to another.  Bam.  Just like that.  Start.  Stop.

From the ground, man-made borders dominate.  You transition, but with little context or perspective.   What kind of view is that?

Yep…the truth is at 300 ft.

Life and how to live it

November 23, 2006

I’ve been thinking about doing this blog for a while.

Every time I read an editorial that strikes me.  Or, an event/issue that begs for comment.  Sometimes it’s just an observation, or universal truth that I just have to get out there.

Yep, another place for self-indulgent soapboxing.  That’s just what the world needs, I told myself.   A mans got to have a forum.

It’s like my friend Ric and I getting together for beers.  We call it “talking about life and how to live it.”  And we do.  Stories.  Politics.  Irreverent views.  The occasional (as in not often) brilliant insight.  Humor with an opinion.

Now you get to drink with us.  Here goes!
